Coach Cam Black Named Award Recipient

Coach Cam Black Receives Calvin Lee Murray Award

Another Red Devil was honored as Coach Black was the recipient of the Murray Award.  It is presented annually to the person or persons with a strong commitment to promote, preserve, and strengthen the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association through the development of, or association with, activities that foster positive influences on both coaches and athletes of our state.

Cam has been instrumental in establishing, promoting, and expanding the GACA Weightlifting competition each spring.  The competition now includes a female division as well as male.  In 2004 the state competition was held right here in Hawkinsville at the gymnasium and brought in participants from around the state that included current UGA running back Thomas Brown.  Our own Pedro Powell was named "Pound for Pound Strongest Man In The State" during his career at Hawkinsville.  A huge amount of planning and work goes into the event and it utilizes volunteers to judge and score the competition.  The event has grown by leaps and bounds and this year was held at the Perry Ag Center.

Once again, another Red Devil coach being honored with a state wide award is proof of just how fortunate we are to have this great program here in Hawkinsville.

"Ain't it great to be a Red Devil"!
