Devils Alive In Playoff Chase

The Red Devils remain in the thick of the state playoff chase despite a 39-0 defeat to the Twiggs County Cobras last Friday night. The Cobras have taken firm control on Region 2 with a victory over the Devils and the Wilcox County Patriots. The Cobras will be heavily favored in their remaining region games and should take the region championship unless something really dramatic should happen. The Devils sit tied for second place with a 2-1 record and have three games remaining. The Devils have very important wins over Irwin County and Dooly County which would give them the "tiebreaker" over those two if they should all become tied at some point. The Devils travel to Rochelle this Friday night for a date with the high flying Patriots. They are led by all state quarterback Nick Marshall who has put up some of the most impressive numbers for any quarterback in the state over the last two years. His receiving corps includes a collection of speedsters led by Tay Porter and Lonnie Outlaw, a 6'7" target. The Patriots have lost twice this year - to Wilkinson County and to Twiggs County. Both of the Patriot games were on the road and Marshall played very sparingly against Twiggs due to an injury in pre game warm-ups. It will take a huge effort for the Devils to win at Donnie Clack Stadium but the Devils have shown that "no quit" attitude at times in their wins. The Devils have come from behind in three of their four wins - the most recent being the dramatic overtime win versus the Dooly County Bobcats at "The Grove" in Vienna.

These Devils have shown significant improvement over last year and have improved slightly most every week this season. Let's let "bygones be bygones" and forget about last week and let's go to Wilcox County with a renewed "never quit" attitude. The Devils need our support more than ever in these last three games in their quest to reach the playoffs.

Go Big Red!!
