Former
Red Devil Coaches Peach State to Finals
Former Red Devil great Chad Campbell has his Peach County Trojans in the Class AAA State Final football
championship game this coming weekend. The undefeated Trojans will face off with the Gainesville Red Elephants.
Chad has coached at Peach County for a number of years and was the Defensive Coordinator on the two back to back
state champion Trojan teams in 2005 and 2006. Then head coach Rance Gillespie left for a position at Georgia
Southern and Chad was hired as the Head Coach. Chad was a two sport star at Hawkinsville and his accolades include
being one of the top homerun hitters in the history of the school and hurling one of only two recorded no hitters
in baseball history for the Red Devils. On the football field Campbell may be best remembered for a stirring last
second comeback win over arch rival Bleckley County as he hit Darren Durham on a pass play in the waning seconds to
snatch a victory away from the rival Royals in a game I had the pleasure to see. And as nearly all Red Devil fans
know, Chad is the brother of former Red Devil coach Lee Campbell.
Should Chad and the Trojans pull off the state final win, Lee and Chad would become perhaps the first brother
combination to ever win football state championships in the state of Georgia in the GHSA. I have emailed the
Georgia High School Football Daily and brought this to their attention for verification.
Good luck Chad and the Peach County Trojans!
