Lady Devils Win Overtime Thriller

      Hawkinsville played host to the Twiggs County Cobras on Tuesday, December 15th for a pair of Varsity games.  The Red Devils and Lady Devils swept Twiggs County.  Then, on Friday, December 18th, Hawkinsville played host to the Bleckley County Royals for a pair of Junior Varsity games and a pair of Varsity games.  Hawkinsville won both Lady Devils games. 

Hawkinsville v. Twiggs County 

      The first game of the evening was played between the Lady Devils and the Lady Cobras.  At the end of the first quarter, the Lady Devils were leading 15 to 5.  When the second quarter ended, Hawkinsville had extended the lead, ahead 29 to 9.  The third quarter ended with the Lady Devils up 36 to 11.  The final score was Hawkinsville 45, Twiggs County 15. 

      The Lady Devils combined to pull down 40 rebounds, 22 of those being defensive rebounds.  Leading rebounders were Ykeshia Baker with 10 and Ashley Gilbert with 8.  The Lady Devils gave 7 assists, led by Kamara Bembry with 3.  Hawkinsville had 20 steals.  The team was led by Kamara Bembry with 5 steals and Sharinea Coley, Ashley Gilbert, and Ykeshia Baker with 4 steals apiece.  The Lady Devils blocked 4 shots, led by Brittany Palode with 3.  The team had 11 defensive deflections.  Hawkinsville scored 12 points on turnovers and allowed 2 points on turnovers.  The Red Devils had one player in double figures. 

      The second game of the day was played between the Red Devils and the Cobras.  The score was tied at 8 at the end of the first quarter.  In the second quarter Hawkinsville charged ahead, leading 28 to 17.  The third quarter ended with the Red Devils up 48 to 27.  The Cobras charged back in the fourth quarter but the Red Devils were determined to deny them the win.  The final score was Hawkinsville 56, Twiggs County 50. 

      The Red Devils combined to pull down 35 rebounds, 25 of those being defensive rebounds.  Leading rebounders were Aaron Black with 8, Camaron Moses with 7, Bobby Anderson with 6, and Alex Andrews with 5.  The Red Devils gave 8 assists, led by Camaron Moses with 4.  Hawkinsville had 12 steals.  The team was led by Camaron Moses with 4 and Jarvis Tinsley with 3.  The Red Devils blocked 5 shots.  The team had 3 defensive deflections.  Hawkinsville scored 8 points on turnovers and allowed 9 points on turnovers.  The Red Devils had one player in double figures. 

Hawkinsville v. Bleckley County 

      Hawkinsville hosted the Bleckley County Royals for four games on Friday, December 18th.  The first game of the day was played between the JV Lady Devils and the JV Lady Royals.  The final score was Hawkinsville 37, Bleckley County 16.  The second game of the day was played between the JV Red Devils and the JV Royals.  The final score was Hawkinsville 29, Bleckley County 49. 

      The third game of the day was played by the Lady Devils and the Lady Royals.  These two teams had the crowd on its feet for almost the entire game, especially during the final few minutes of the fourth quarter and the overtime period.  The Lady Devils were trailing by a single point at the end of the first quarter, 7 to 8.  When the teams went to the locker rooms at the end of the second quarter, Hawkinsville was ahead by a single point, 18 to 17.  The third quarter ended with the Lady Devils once again down a single point, 28 to 29.  With 9.6 seconds remaining on the clock in the fourth quarter, the Lady Royals sank a three-point shot to tie the game at 43 points.  The Lady Devils attempted a basket but were unsuccessful, sending the game into an overtime period.  While the Lady Royals scored the first basket in OT, they could not stop the Lady Devils.  The final score was Hawkinsville 54, Bleckley County 47. 

      The Lady Devils combined to pull down 36 rebounds, 21 of those being defensive rebounds.  Leading rebounders were Ykeshia Baker with 13, Ashley Gilbert with 8, and Brittany Palode with 6.  The Lady Devils gave 5 assists, led by Kamara Bembry with 4.  Hawkinsville had 16 steals.  The team was led by Kamara Bembry with 7 and Ykeshia Baker with 4.  The Lady Devils blocked 8 shots, led by Brittany Palode and Ykeshia Baker with 3 apiece.  The team had 16 defensive deflections.  Hawkinsville scored 4 points on turnovers and allowed 4 points on turnovers.  The Lady Devils had two players in double figures. 

      The fourth game of the day was played by the Red Devils and the Royals.  At the end of the first quarter the Red Devils were down 8 to 14.  At the end of the second quarter Hawkinsville had closed the gap and was down only two points, 17 to 19.  When the third quarter ended, the Red Devils were trailing 29 to 37.  The final score was Hawkinsville 44, Bleckley County 55. 

      The Red Devils combined to pull down 30 rebounds, 21 of those being defensive rebounds.  Leading rebounders were Bobby Anderson with 7 and Darrien Brown, Jr. and Alex Andrews with 5 apiece.  The Red Devils gave 6 assists, led by Darrien Brown, Jr. with 2.  Hawkinsville had 5 steals.  The Red Devils blocked 1 shot.  The team had 10 defensive deflections.  Hawkinsville scored 2 points on turnovers and allowed 8 points on turnovers.  The Red Devils had one player in double figures. 

Pulaski County Middle School Game Schedule 

      On Thursday, January 7th, the PCMS Devils will host the Crisp County Cougars for a pair of games beginning at 4:00 p.m.  Then on Monday, January 11th, the Wilcox County Patriots will travel to Hawkinsville for a pair of games beginning at 4:00 p.m. 

HHS Game Schedule 

      On Tuesday, January 5th, the Devils will host the Webster County Eagles for a pair of Varsity games beginning at 6:00 p.m.  Friday, January 8th, will see the Devils traveling to Rochelle to face the Wilcox County Patriots.  The JV Red Devils are scheduled to play at 5:00 p.m. with the Varsity games beginning at 7:00 p.m.  Then, on Saturday, January 9th, the Devils will hit the road again, this time heading to Vienna to face the Dooly County Bobcats.  The JV games are scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. with the Varsity games beginning at 7:00 p.m.
